Foundayo in Derry: orforglipron patient guide
Foundayo is a brand name for orforglipron, a prescription-only medicine. This guide explains the newly authorised tablet without recommending it or suggesting that it is suitable for everyone.

What are Foundayo and orforglipron?
Foundayo is a brand name for orforglipron. It is an oral GLP-1 receptor agonist authorised in the UK in August 2026 for weight management and for type 2 diabetes in specified adults. For weight management it is taken once daily as a tablet, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, when a prescriber determines that it is clinically appropriate.
It is a newer medicine and is subject to additional monitoring. That status helps regulators identify new safety information quickly; suspected side effects can be reported through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
Who might be considered for treatment?
The licensed weight-management indication includes adults with obesity, or some adults who are overweight and have at least one weight-related health condition. An assessment considers medical history, current medicines, previous approaches, pregnancy plans and whether treatment can be used and monitored safely.
Meeting a general weight or BMI threshold does not make Foundayo automatically appropriate. A new authorisation also does not mean that a medicine is suitable or available for every patient.

- Your complete medical history and current medicines
- Previous pancreatitis, gallbladder problems or significant digestive symptoms
- Diabetes treatment, particularly insulin or sulfonylureas
- Liver problems and medicines that may interact with orforglipron
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding and plans to become pregnant
- Expected benefits, limitations, side effects, monitoring and follow-up
Taking a daily tablet safely
The authorised product information says the tablet is taken once daily, at any time of day, without a food or water restriction. It should be swallowed whole and not broken, crushed or chewed. Doses are increased gradually according to response and tolerability. The prescriber’s instructions and the current patient leaflet must always take priority; do not change a dose yourself.
Common side effects and important warning signs
Gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort can occur and may contribute to dehydration. Because the medicine is new, read the current patient leaflet and report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
Seek urgent medical advice for severe, persistent abdominal pain—particularly if it reaches the back—as this can be a sign of pancreatitis. Serious allergic reactions require emergency help. Contact your clinician promptly about significant or persistent symptoms.
Pregnancy and contraception
Foundayo should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The current patient leaflet advises stopping it at least three weeks before trying to become pregnant. Orforglipron may also reduce the effectiveness of oral hormonal contraception: consider using an additional barrier method, such as condoms, or changing to a non-oral contraceptive method for 30 days after starting Foundayo and for 30 days after each dose increase. Discuss pregnancy plans and contraception with the prescriber before treatment.
Why follow-up matters
Reviews allow the prescriber to assess response, side effects, hydration, relevant measurements and whether treatment remains safe and useful. They also provide support with nutrition, activity and longer-term maintenance.
Other weight-management options
Orforglipron is not the only possible approach.
